Sister Act
This was the first home I ever built. Well, actually my sister and her husband built it, but I was their interior designer and made all selections and completed the decoration. It has been over 20 years since completion and with a few minor updates to upholstery and paint. It has provided a beautiful backdrop to MANY family gatherings and memories over the years.
This foyer floor was designed to hide dirt and grime brought in by this large and outdoorsy family. I remember working through how to install the slate tile, which lays out perfectly within an oak grid pattern.
I laid out and extended the grid of the oak through the wooden floors beyond. I still appreciate that detail when I walk into her house today. I’m not great at math…
The centerpiece of the foyer is the cast bronze table base we selected before the house was finished, which shows local fauna that appears in the lake behind the house. We literally found it in the basement of an antique shop.
Animal print on animal print! The tables and lamp are over 30 years old from their previous house.
Ruthann and I gave these antique sconces to my sister and her husband for Christmas the year we were building the house.
I love to mix fabrics on a sofa as seen here.
The look thru fireplace is an amazing compliment to the views provided across the rear of the home and is stunning with its stone chimney facade.
My favorite spot has always been the keeping room side of the fireplace and the cozy corner just off the kitchen.
A see-through fireplace creates some artistic vistas.
The antique remnant above the bed was from a Philadelphia row house.
New bedding and a monogrammed pillow is always right.
A recovered chair in the bedroom is over 20 years old.
In our current interior design “refresh” we added an upholstered bench and host chair slip covers in the dining room
Lots of blue and white added to the dining room walls, along with a coat of paint.
