Bohemian Chic dining room brings modern and traditional together resulting in beauty, romance and warmth – just in time for the holidays.
This project was an amazing opportunity because I was working with a husband to surprise his wife with a new dining room the actual week of Thanksgiving. I have already completed several projects for this couple, so I had an idea of what she liked. The client told me that his wife had mentioned in passing that she wanted a distressed, bleached dining table, and to create a more traditional room than the other rooms in the house.
With that in mind, I chose to make the dining room Bohemian Chic. This is a great look when working with other, more modern interiors because you can use more floral fabrics (a nod to traditional) and layer in metallics (a nod to modern). The lead fabric, a floral bird print, was so beautiful, I decided to use it to make a bold impact by using it for window treatments and all eight upholstered dining chairs. By layering it with sheer undercurtains with a lurex thread and metallic beads for sparkle, I created an effect that is so romantic and soft it feels almost like a bedroom.
The casegoods are so important in a dining room—they serve as the main attractions. The table I found was a 113” reclaimed wood in a Flamant style, which combines rustic wood with modern lines. The sideboard was a large black cabinet in the Hollywood Regency style. The lines are clean, but the black and gold colors make it especially traditional. I rounded out the look with quiet botanical lithographs on the walls and a dynamic starburst mirror.
My client’s wife was thrilled with the look of this romantic and modern traditional dining room, as well as the thoughtfulness of her husband. I was thrilled to provide them with the perfect place for celebrating the holiday with family and friends.
