Whatever you call them; They are a MUST!

Nashville interior design by Eric Ross Interiors, top interior designer, Eric Ross discusses the importance of window treatments in interior design.

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know how strongly I feel about this one.  A room without Window Treatments is like a house without landscaping. Naked!  I love the softness and luxurious feeling that can only be achieved with a window treatment.

ALSO, you may know that my personal preference is that they should be Fabric: Soft, and Luxurious rather than hard like a plantation shutter or wood blind.  Yes, many Nashville interior design clients have asked me about light control and heat, etc…  This is where I prefer to incorporate an under sheer (See Above) or a roller shade.  Take for example, my own kitchen windows (See Below) that get extreme sunlight in the afternoon and early evening.  We’ve installed a battery operated roller shade underneath the Valance.

Or in many of these situations with west facing windows, I use a traversing panel so that in extreme heat/sunlight my clients can pull the window treatment closed for a time.  Excuse my own horrible photo, but this is to demonstrate the intensity of the sunlight.  Between 3 – 6 everyday we will pull these closed to reduce the glare and heat.

Our beautiful dining room curtains made of a Miles Redd Schumacher fabric really pops against the intense green of the doors.

Next I’ll share with you a few of my favorite trim details.  Whether it’s a tape down the lead edge, a rod wrapped in a small leopard print, a large paisley fabric run down the lead edge to create a band, or some fun cafe curtains to block the ugly view.  The things that can be done to create beauty and drama are endless.  And you know that’s where I shine… in the Details!

Wondering what to do with sidelights on your front door??  Yes, even in a foyer adding side panels proved to enhance privacy in the evenings. (See Below) Don’t you just love the softness created by the skirted entry table and the drapery panels next to the door?

I talked about this room (below) on an Instagram Post recently.  The client had the entire room in plantation shutters, which completely blocked the view of the gorgeous pool and outdoor courtyard.  I insisted that we remove the shutters and flank the beautiful view with these pretty panels. They were thrilled with the way it brought the outside in and brightened up the whole interior of the home.
