In this 2016 feature of Southern Style, Interior designer Eric Ross achieved a harmonious blend of beauty and functionality in this Morrison, Tennessee farmhouse. With the rugged demands of farm life in mind, the design began with durable slate floors to mask the dirt from gardening and tending cattle. The interiors reflect a warm American and French country style, especially in the kitchen, where earthy browns, creams, and greens complement the owner’s cherished Spode Woodland and transferware collections, showcased on open shelves. An antique hutch was added to balance the space, making it feel larger. Ross extended the palette into the guesthouse, using green walls and floral fabrics to create a peaceful, cohesive look. His thoughtful design offers a serene escape, combining rustic charm with practical elements that suit the owners’ active lifestyles and farm-based retreat.

“Debbie is an avid collector. Having the open shelves offered her an opportunity to display a lot of collections.”
