Oak Hill, Tennessee

This project came at a peak time in my schedule, but it was a perfect fit, so I made room for it. The clients, relocating to Nashville from various states, needed all new furnishings and window treatments for their French chateau-style home. With a tight deadline to complete the work by Christmas, I was excited to dive in.

The house, with its stone facade and a bridge over a ravine, was conveniently close to my studio. This proximity helped with time management and frequent check-ins. The project focused on redecorating and avoiding major structural changes. I repainted the harsh white exterior trim with a gray-green to blend with the stone and create a softer look. The clients also refreshed the landscape with pink crepe myrtle.

Inside, the dark truffle brown walls were gloomy. I introduced vibrant colors and patterns in the grand two-story foyer to brighten the space, drawing inspiration from a conservatory. The music room’s cognac wood panels and black ceiling complemented a black baby grand piano and had excellent acoustics. In the study, I used a lush embroidered fabric that matched the wall panels, adding dark lichen and cream for a dramatic yet restful effect.

The dining room featured yellow and parchment damask wallpaper, a walnut dining table, and scalloped-back chairs in red cut velvet. Dramatic draperies in green and yellow with chinoiserie patterns added a finishing touch.

In the central salon, I arranged furniture in mirrored patterns to enhance views and daylight, keeping the truffle brown walls to contrast with light fabrics and a custom rug. The primary bedroom wing and guest rooms each had unique themes, including blue-and-white, French-style, Sedona-inspired, and Russian Presidential Suite.

This project stands out as one of my favorites due to its elegant outcome and meeting the Christmas deadline, blending formality with warmth.
