Dramatic colors and daring decorative lighting take this home’s standard interior from basic beige to bold and beautiful.

This project began with the goal to transform the interiors from a standard track house to a modern chic interior that reflected the client’s style.  The client was very specific in her vision for this house.  She wanted it to feel stylish and modern.

We had a blank palette from which to start this project.  Everything was beige—beige walls, beige upholstery, off white trim. The client also had an extensive art collection that featured very intense primary colors, which overwhelmed the rooms against the beige finishes.  And the lighting was so inadequate and unattractive; we had to completely start fresh.

One of the first things my eye noticed was a stand of lavender crepe myrtles in the back garden.  This is very visible from the great room and served as inspiration for the color scheme.  We darkened the color to raisin and added ink blue and touches of spa blue.  The depth of the raisin balanced the colorful artwork, showcasing the vast collection.

Lighting was the final element used to create the new space.  In the great room we added more recessed lights and selected a sleek, modern ceiling fan.  We removed the flush mount fixtures in the gallery and added seven modern chandeliers to create more drama in an otherwise boring space.  And the centerpiece of the dining room was a new frosted glass chandelier that doubles as sculpture—a perfect conversation starter.

By using dramatic colors and daring decorative lighting, we gave the homeowner a home that represents her expressive sense of art and style.
