This feature, “Nostalgic Charm,” highlights the kitchen transformation by Nashville-based interior designer Eric Ross for Melissa Bourgeois, capturing the essence of her grandmother’s farmhouse. Originally placed centrally in their Tennessee home, the kitchen’s location was reconfigured with architect Scott Wilson to enhance its connection to the outdoors, allowing Melissa easy access to her garden and herbs.
The redesigned kitchen features three exterior walls, a cozy window seat, and matching Dutch doors leading to outdoor spaces. Key elements include an AGA stove in a hearth-like alcove, a large island for gatherings, and unique finishes that blend refinement with rustic touches. The layout also includes a drying room for herbs, a pantry that doubles as a storm shelter, and a kid-friendly marble-topped cabinet for baking with her granddaughter. Ross aimed for a joyful space that balances functionality and nostalgia, culminating in a kitchen that feels both homey and elegant.
“Melissa’s key requirement was that it make her happy, so I became jubilant in my finishes and the way I expressed ‘country.’”
