I find it helps if you have a cocktail before you put the lights on the tree. It keeps you from taking what should be a merry experience and turning it into the Grinch who stole Christmas.
Seriously, try adding blue to your holiday tree. The cool tones in the color create a dynamic counterpoint to the traditional red and green color scheme.
