Despite what Netflix says, gray (not orange) is the new white (not black.) As a neutral that is the color of shadows, gray provides a moody atmosphere that can be tamed into a comforting air with lots of lighting and a healthy dose of good taste.
Magnetic Gray by Sherman Williams
Choosing the right color is key, so I’ll let you in on a secret: My favorite gray is Magnetic Gray by Sherman Williams. After choosing the base color (flat or if it’s in a bathroom egg shell), I’ll go one shade lighter and two shades darker on the color card (in the fan deck) for accents, ceiling and trim.
I love the names of gray colors that Sherman Williams gives their chips. Silver Strand. Web Gray, Volcanic Ash.
Texture and pattern are keys to layering in more shades of gray. Blue-gray gives a cooler feel while brown-gray offers a warmth to your palette. Either way, gray can certainly be a great way to go.
